The Trends Hub will return to Surfaces 2013 as the best place to discover the future of flooring and surfaces. Attendees will get a unique preview of the major color, texture, material and styling trends for 2013. Sponsored by Floor Focus, the Trends Hub will have an R&D laboratory theme with an inspiring presentation of the latest products from exhibitors alongside a unique preview of the major color, texture, material and styling trends.

The Eco-Lab zone will debut in the Trends Hub in 2013. This area will display product innovations that have green credentials.

Victoria Redshaw of the United Kingdom, Lead Trend Forecaster and Managing Director at Scarlet Opus, conceptualized, designed and will be curating the Trends Hub.

"Forecasting trends is scientific as a process. It's like an equation, but has a reasonably guaranteed outcome. We do incredible amounts of research and translation analysis of hundreds and hundreds of pieces of information and we bring that all together to make our forecast," said Redshaw. "The Trends Hub is where you can find the best of the best at Surfaces. If you only have a couple of hours to see the show, these are the real gems and the must-see products that we believe must not be missed."

In addition to seeing the hottest new trends, "Live in the Hub" will give attendees the opportunity to join featured designers for 15-minute presentations revealing a round-up of the trends and products at the following times:

Tuesday, January 29

11:00 a.m. – Erinn Valencich

1:00 p.m. – Annette Callari

3:00 p.m. – Victoria Redshaw

Wednesday, January 30

11:00 a.m. – Annette Callari

1:00 p.m. – Erinn Valencich

3:00 p.m. – Shelley Pond

Thursday, January 31

1:00 p.m. – Shelley Pond

The Trends Hub will also serve as a place on the show floor to take a break, hold a meeting or catch up on calls and emails – comfy seating booths and a long laboratory bench will provide space for attendees to relax.

Some of the exhibitors who will be showcasing their products in the Trends Hub include Amorim Flooring N.A., Bedrosians, Carpet Crafts, Chene de Lest, J Mish Carpet, Phenix, Premiere Finishing, and Renick Milworks.

The Trends Hub will be located in Shorelines Exhibit Hall on Level 2 in booth S6741.

2013 Ceramics of Italy Tile Competition winners

This year, the Ceramics of Italy Tile Competition, an annual awards program sponsored by Confindustria Ceramica (the Italian Association of Ceramics) and the Italian Trade Commission, attracted the most competitive pool of projects in the contest's history. The winning projects speak to the A&D community's commitment to using a material that is technically advanced, aesthetically pleasing and manufactured with a focus on sustainability. Nine projects in three categories were recognized: residential, institutional and commercial. The grand-prize winners include a century-old, three-floor adaptive re-use project (Schaefer-Graf Residence), a 675,000-square-foot entertainment arena (Barclays Center) and a LEED-certified government building (NIST) in addition to six projects who received honorable mentions from the jury.
