Coverings 2004 News

Coverings 2004, the showcase for ceramic tile and natural stone floor coverings, will take place March 23-26 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. The show will feature more than 27,000 industry professionals and more than 1,400 exhibitors in 500,000 net square feet of exhibit space.

Marble Institute of America to co-sponsor Coverings

Coverings has announced that the Marble Institute of America (MIA) will serve as a co-sponsor of Coverings 2004. MIA will be responsible for developing educational sessions related to the stone industry as part of the Coverings conference program. MIA also will assist in the administration of the Prism 2004 Stone in Architecture awards.

In addition to MIA's co-sponsorship of the 2004 show, Coverings will sponsor a series of instructional CD-ROMs developed by MIA. These CD-ROMs will be designed to expand and increase the level of competency in the fabrication and installation of natural stone. Other co-sponsors of Coverings include the American Institute of Architects (Orlando Chapter), the Associazione Italiana Marmomacchine, The American Society of Interior Designers (North Florida Chapter and Florida South Chapter), the Construction Specifications Institute (Greater Orlando Chapter), International Interior Design Association (Florida Chapter), the Terrazzo Tile and Marble Association of Canada, the Tile Contractors' Association of America, and the Tile Heritage Foundation.

Call for entries for 2004 Spectrum Awards

Coverings has announced the call for entries for the 2004 Spectrum Awards, honoring outstanding achievements in ceramic tile design. The $10,000 grand prize will be awarded at the opening General Session at Coverings 2004.

The competition is open to architects and other design professionals whose projects demonstrate creativity and achievement in the use of tile in residential and commercial design. Deadline for entries in Feb. 27, 2004, and projects must have been completed within the past two years (Jan. 2002-Dec. 2003) to be considered. Entries must include a binder with an official entry form, a typed project description, high-quality photographs of the entry and an identification of the submission. Coverings announces Conference Program

This year's Coverings Conference Program will feature a plethora of topics and breakout sessions covering all aspects of the flooring, ceramic tile and natural stone industries from distribution to market trends. Sessions fall into five different subject areas: contractors & installers, architecture & design, dealers & distributors, commercial projects, and fabricators.

The program will open with Steve Forbes, president and CEO of Forbes Inc., and editor-in-chief of Forbes Magazine, delivering the keynote address, 8:30 to 10 a.m. March 23. More than 30 new sessions will take place during the the Conference Program. Aside from breakout sessions and general conferences, special luncheons and evening events are also planned.

Coverings selects NTP as show management company

The board of governors of Coverings has appointed National Trade Productions (NTP) as the new management company for Coverings. The board's five sponsoring associations unanimously selected NTP after a long search to identify the candidate most qualified to take the reigns. The board thanked Trade Show International (TSI) and Skip Mason, who had managed the show until now.

NTP, based in Alexandria, Va., brings more than 27 years of trade show experience and corporate event success to the partnership.
