Miro Zagnoli was commissioned by Assopiastrelle to create a film about Coverings.

Bernard Tschumi Architects' award-winning design of the Paul L. Cejas School of Architecture will serve as the inspiration for the new Ceramic Tiles of Italy exhibit.

Commissioned by Assopiastrelle (the Association of Italian Ceramic Tile Manufacturers), Miro Zagnoli, a Milanese photographer known for his work in the design and fashion industries, walked the corridors of Coverings 2004 with camera in-hand. He captured the products, displays and people that make up the Italian pavilion. Using these photographs, Zagnoli created a film that celebrates the beauty and diversity of Coverings, America's largest tradeshow dedicated to tile and stone products.

Zagnoli chose to use a completely innovative technique to create his film - still photography. He shot the photographs, so that - like pages in a flipbook - they create the illusion of movement. Zagnoli also used a clever twist when it came to illustrating products on display. He arranged tiles from his favorite manufacturers so that they resembled the eye-catching profiles of men and women.

From the busy street outside the Orange County Convention Center to the visitors bustling around the tradeshow, his photographs give a real-life representation of the show. As though walking hand-in-hand with Zagnoli, viewers can see the Ceramic Tiles of Italy booth and pavilion, the award-winning projects of the 2004 Design Competition, and meet the architects and designers who created the projects.

He was also able to incorporate images and information from the Italian Tile industry's new sustainable initiative S-Tiles. He has been traveling around the world photographing some of the best installations of Italian tile. These images are woven into the film to illustrate inspirational examples of tile in use.

The film will be available at Coverings 2005, held May 3rd through 6th at the Orange County Convention Center. Copies are also available upon request from the Italian Trade Commission, 33 E 67th Street, New York, NY 10021. For more information on Coverings 2005, please visit www.coverings.com. Bernard Tschumi Architects to Design Ceramic Tiles of Italy's Booth at Coverings

From May 3rd to May 6th, Coverings will open its doors to industry professionals from all over the world. This year, the Italian tile industry is gearing up for another exciting show. Always on the cutting-edge of design and technology, Ceramic Tiles of Italy has commissioned Bernard Tschumi Architects to create a new exhibit for 2005.

Over its nineteen-year history, Bernard Tschumi Architects has established a world reputation as a leading design firm and has been the recipient of numerous national and international honors. Their design of the Paul L. Cejas School of Architecture, on the Florida International University Campus in Miami, was the Institutional Category winner of the 2004 Ceramic Tiles of Italy Design Competition. A project team of close to 50 architectural, design, engineering and installation professionals developed the plan for two studio/office wings juxtaposed with two geometric activity "generators" clad in brilliant red, yellow and orange tiles from Marazzi and Ceramica Vogue. This award-winning project will serve as the inspiration for the new Ceramic Tiles of Italy booth design.

The Ceramic Tiles of Italy exhibit (#4422) is ideally located in the heart of the Italian Pavilion and will serve as the nucleus for information, inspiration and innovation. The booth will be constructed using an assortment of Italian tile and present unique new ideas for tile applications. One section will serve as a resource center - allowing visitors to pick up the industry's latest promotional materials. As always, it will be a hub of activity as Italian manufacturers host their clients for traditional Italian refreshments.
