Granada Tiles launches Peace Project; collaborates with local artists
November 30, 2007
Los Angeles, CA-based Granada Tiles is reaching out to local artists to design their own vision of peace. The Granada Tiles Peace Project is inviting artists to learn about the 140-year-old technique for producing master-crafted cement tiles and then to submit their own peace design.
The artists' tiles will be available for purchase on the company's website for $10 each, with 5 percent of proceeds going to the artist and 5 percent to the charity of their choice.
One of the first artists to enter a design, Carol Caley of Carol Caley Design Associates, created the "Peace Tree." Made up of hundreds of 4- by 4-inch tile hands reaching toward one another from around the world, Caley says that her “Peace Tree” seeks harmony with other people and with the earth. In addition to receiving 5 percent of all proceeds, Caley’s chosen charity, Heifer International, will receive 5 percent of sales to further their mission of ending world hunger.
