2008 Design Competition Celebrates 15 YearsWhen American designers work with Italian materials, great things happen. Sponsored by Confindustria Ceramica, the Italian Association of Ceramics, and the Italian Trade Commission, the Ceramic Tiles of Italy Design Competition, now in its 15th year, celebrates outstanding examples of contemporary American design featuring fabulous Italian ceramic tiles. This annual awards program boasts a rich history of superior works throughout the country and stands as a testament to the adaptability of Italian tile to a wealth of applications.
This year, the Italians have launched a new website (www.tilecompetition.com), which is strictly dedicated to the competition. The sleekly designed site features a downloadable submission form, as well images of the 2007 winners. What’s more, the site offers a historical look at the competition through the past 15 years.
North American architects and interior designers are invited to submit domestic and international new construction and renovation projects completed between January 2003 and January 2008. A panel of design professionals will judge the projects based on their creativity, aesthetic value, and how the tiles meet their functional and technical requirements. The criterion for the jury includes: overall design of the project, innovative use of tile, tile design, quality of installation and degree that tile enhanced the setting.
Winners in each category will receive a cash prize of $5,000 and a trip to Coverings 2008, which will be held in Orlando, Fla., from April 29-May 2, 2008. Winners will also be treated to a five-day trip to CERSAIE 2008, the world’s largest exhibition for ceramic tile and bathroom furnishings, and join a delegation of leading design media journalists. The organization will once again offer an additional $1,000 to be shared by the winning contractor/distributor team.
Completed submissions must be received no later than January 11, 2008. For more information contact Novità Communications at email@example.com.
