Coverings organizers promise fun-filled after-hours program
Organizers of Coverings 2008 say that the “party phase” of the annual expo and conference kicks off early this year with Spectrum/Prism Awards ceremony April 29, followed by a reception from 5:30-6:30 p.m. With $30,500 in prize money to be presented, the awards will honor outstanding and innovative use of tile (Spectrum) and stone (Prism) in architecture.
Celebrity designer Doug Wilson, the star of TLC’s two hit decorating shows, “Trading Spaces” and “Moving Up,” who also will be a Coverings keynote speaker the following day, will emcee the ceremony and help get the celebration underway.
On Thursday, May 1, from 6 to 11 p.m., Coverings will take over the landmark House of Blues in Orlando for its annual Appreciation Night-an occasion open to all attendees and one that’s shaping up to be one of the biggest and best Coverings bashes ever, note organizers. Scheduled to appear are legendary blues guitarist Mac Arnold and Plate Full O’ Blues.
Buses will shuttle guests from the Convention Center to the party, and a schedule will soon be posted with all the details on the Coverings website. The bus transportation is free, as is admission to the House of Blues for attendees 21 years and older. The complimentary wine, beer and hors d’oeuvres will be flowing until 9 p.m., when it reverts to a cash bar.
Tile Council of North America and Brazil Ceramic Tiles are joining forces to sponsor The Appreciation Night festivities.
