Questech Corp., a Rutland,
VT-based decorative tile manufacturer, has received the Vermont Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence and Pollution
Prevention. The company was one of only three companies recognized
for Environmental Excellence in Pollution Prevention for 2007.
The winners are selected from Vermont individuals,
organizations, institutions, public agencies, businesses and industry using
innovative approaches that reduce or eliminate the generation of pollutants and
wastes at the source.
“This
award reflects our commitment to pollution prevention, waste management and
recycling and we hope this project inspires other businesses to join in our
clean-air efforts,” said Barry Culkin, President and CEO of Questech Corp.
Questech
says it employed changes using a unique combination of chemistry, process and
engineering that allowed them to completely eliminate one major type of
emission. The adoption of a highly effective control strategy reduced another
emission by approximately 96%, the company noted.
“We are committed to
being a responsible corporate citizen and that means caring about the well
being of our employees, the community where we are located, and our customers,”
added Culkin. “Questech has always been innovative and cutting edge in our
approach to the tile industry, and we are applying that same way of thinking to
how we can minimize our impact on the environment.”
