The second edition of “S_tiles: Italian tiles towards sustainability,” the integrated environmental and social communication strategy created by Confindustria Ceramica to highlight the ceramic tile industry’s leadership position in terms of sustainable development, is set to launch by the end of 2008.

The first edition of S_tiles in 2004 brought to fruition the strategic approach that Confindustria Ceramica first outlined in 1998 with the publication of the “Integrated environmental report” and subsequently with the launch of EMAS registration procedures for the entire Sassuolo-Scandiano tile manufacturing district.

A few years later, the Italian ceramic tile industry has considered it appropriate to adopt a communication tool that keeps up with the latest developments. Application of Ecolabel certification to ceramic tiles, advances in ceramic products and Confindustria Ceramica’s participation in the Green Building Council Italia are just a few of the factors relating to sustainable building that make an up-to-date communication tool essential.

The latest edition of “S_tiles: Italian tiles towards sustainability” will be promoted by a website ( and a printed publication, both bilingual (Italian and English).
