Hakatai Mosaic Glass Tiles’ Ashland-e series, manufactured with both pre- and post-consumer recycled content, helped Vision Development reach LEED for Homes Platinum level certification, the first in the San Fernando Valley (a suburb in Los Angeles, CA).
Marty Meisler, principal of Vision Development, specified 675 square feet of the Ashland-e series for both the interior and exterior. Hakatai glass tiles were used in the master bath, kids bath, for a full wall in the kitchen, as the pool trim and for the outside pool shower.
The 2,400 square foot home earned 11 more points than necessary to be certified LEED Platinum, and exceeds California’s Title 24 Energy requirements by 61%.
Hakatai says its Ashland-e product is comprised of “30 and 70 percent glass bottles and/or other waste glass that would otherwise enter the solid waste stream. The waste glass is a mix of 90 percent post-consumer material and 10 percent pre-consumer.”
