Time of Essence in Retiling of Ice Arena's Locker, Shower Rooms
A retiling project for the Philadelphia Flyers' practice arena and a tight deadline reveal years of on-site experience and installation ingenuity
The decision for using orange, black and white was integral to the design of this project, said Avalon’s sales associate/designer Pamela Courtenay. “The Flyers are an iconic team in the Delaware Valley area, so there weren’t any limitations on the design aspect of this project. [They] wanted the correct products used to make a change in the locker rooms for the better,” Courtenay added.
For the installation, Avalon specified several products from TEC®, an H.B. Fuller Construction Products brand, including 3N1® Mortar, HydraFlex™ Waterproofing Crack Isolation Membrane and Power Grout® Ultimate Performance Grout. Also utilized throughout this project were PermaBase cement boards from National Gypsum inside the steam rooms and showers, as well as Schluter Systems’ Ditra (to build up the thickness of the wall in preparation for tiling) and Kerdi (to make the coaches’ bathrooms watertight).
To help get up-to-speed after the unexpected discoveries, Showers turned to H.B. Fuller Construction Products and its TEC product line. “We used Power Grout to give us the ability to get the Philadelphia Flyers shower facilities up and running. We also wanted to provide stain protection, and liked the idea of better color consistency.”
