ORLANDO, FL -- Thirty-six projects in nine categories were announced as winners in the third annual Masonry Veneer Manufacturers Association (MVMA) Design Awards Contest at the annual MVMA Winter Meeting. The event was held February 8 at the Rosen Plaza Hotel in Orlando, FL, during the International Builders Show.

These four projects scored highest among the judges and took home the Best in Show awards:
  • Platinum: Van Winkle Residence (Paradise Valley, AZ) Coronado Stone Products
  • Gold: Spanish Trails (Las Vegas, NV) Eldorado Stone
  • Silver: Breedlove Residence (Fresno CA) Boral
  • Bronze: Millville by the Sea Mill House (Millville DE) Environmental Stoneworks
The winners were chosen by five judges from the American Institute of Building Design (AIBD). AIBD executive director Steven Mickley CPBD, who served as one of the judges, spoke at the awards banquet, saying, “I was very impressed by the quality and the volume of submissions this year. With 231 choices, there was quite a bit of competition.” Entries were collected between August and December of 2011.

Mickley added that “AIBD is proud to serve as the judges for the Design Awards, and we hope to continue to work with the masonry veneer industry and see the innovative ways that adhered concrete masonry veneer continues to be used in building designs across the country.”

The MVMA Design Awards were created to recognize the work of industry professionals who are setting trends by featuring adhered concrete masonry veneer (ACMV) in their projects.

“We had some very impressive winners this year” said Mike Fischer, MVMA general manager. “We want to continue to grow this event and I believe this year was a great success. We look forward to topping it next year.”
