While many — especially us here on the East Coast — are experiencing cold weather, this issue of TILE brings our readers imagery of the beach. In the Installation Case Study “Ocean, sand and a spa bathroom” (beginning on page 18) the homeowners wanted to transform their formerly dark outdated bathroom into a soothing haven where they can relax after a long day. The designer relied on a palette of vibrant blue glass mosaics, white ceramic subway tile and travertine floor tiles to satisfy his clients’ wishes. The color combination — paired with the varying sizes and textures of the tiles — helped to create an atmosphere reminiscent of the ocean.
In our second Installation Case Study, “A seamless pool installation,” (beginning on page 22) colorful blue glass mosaics were also employed for the pool design of an upscale Beverly Hills residence. What’s important to note in this installation is the extreme attention to detail the tile installer gave to the job. Jimmy Reed, President of Rock Solid Tile, Inc., worked closely with the homeowner to develop the design concept and skillfully implemented the design with precision. “A design is only as good as its installation” is a phrase I have been hearing more frequently, and I believe that this pool installation is a beautiful illustration of that.
Also in this edition of TILE are the Surfaces and Cevisama show previews. Yes, that’s right; it’s that time of year again. With the start of the New Year comes the kickoff of “trade show” season.
Surfaces/StonExpo/Marmomacc Americas, which will be held from January 29 to 31 at the Mandalay Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV, is gearing up for a large turnout. The show is expected to include more than 600 of the largest manufacturers and suppliers of tile and flooring products as well as an extensive conference program, including more than 70 seminars. For those who are planning to attend, a complete schedule can be viewed on TILE’s Web site at: www.tile-magazine.com/SurfacesStonExpoMarmomaccAmericas. I hope to see you there.
Shortly after returning from Las Vegas, I will be making my annual journey to Valencia, Spain, to attend Cevisama. I find the international exhibition, which is scheduled from February 5 to 8, always exciting to tour. The halls are filled with tiles of all shapes, sizes, colors and textures, and I am never disappointed with new introductions that take the level of technology to the next level.
I will be reporting back on all my new findings from Surfaces/StonExpo/Marmomacc Americas and Cevisama in the next issue of TILE. Additionally, look for product reviews of some of the newest products on our Web site at: www.tile-magazine.com as well as our social media platforms.
