Everyone is always on the go. Nothing is truer here in New Jersey, where it feels like you can’t even stop for a second to breathe without getting yelled at, bumped into or honked at. No matter where you are, people are always trying to get somewhere as quickly and as pain-free as possible  — that one thing is evident.

After returning from a successful trip to Las Vegas, NV, to attend The International Surface Event (TISE) at the end of January  — which you can read more in my review on page 36 — I traveled overseas to Spain with Tile of Spain USA to attend Cevisama, the international exhibition of ceramics and bathroom furnishings, which was held from February 3 to 7 at the Feria Valencia. Reflecting on the trip this week certainly has me feeling all the feels. It was an unforgettable adventure, complete with an intimate group of talented designers and journalists, who I learned so much from in just one week.

In Valencia, we joined close to 100,000 people from all over the world at the Feria Valencia to view the newest, most innovative tile products on the market. Certain trends are continuing to blossom, while others are gaining more traction. One thing is certain  — technology continues to advance, allowing companies to create ultra-realistic tile reproductions of natural and handmade materials, while offering customers an endless array of design options. It was also amazing to see the larger-than-life booths, which seem to grow larger each year. Some encompassed more square footage than the average apartment (and dare I say, house) in New Jersey, which is a lasting testament to the event’s importance in the tile industry.

As I sit here writing this, I am anxiously awaiting my next journey to Coverings, which is scheduled to take place at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, LA, from April 20 to 23. As one of TILE Magazine’s biggest tradeshows of the year, I’m excited to see what this year’s edition has to offer  — from the interactive education sessions to the new products and show features. There’s always something exciting to explore at this event. Look out for my full review of Coverings and Cevisama in the April/May edition and follow me @heather_of_tilemagazine for show updates.
