Protect porous materials from the ingress of liquids by applying Stain-Proof® Dense Stone Impregnating Sealer (formerly known as Stain-Proof Plus™), available from Dry Treat, to all six sides of natural stone or tile (a process known as dip sealing). This method stops the darkening of natural stone and is ideal when installing a new shower, as well as in situations where there are open joints (where water can enter and migrate easily). Stain-Proof Dense Stone Impregnating Sealer is 99% breathable to allow moisture to escape and chemically bonds to surface.
HardieBacker® Cement Board with HydroDefense™ Technology available from James Hardie has a 100% waterproof composition throughout the board. Passing the ANSI A118.10 test for waterproofness, it offers built-in protection from water, eliminating the need to spend extra time applying waterproof coating across the entire surface area of your board. Just waterproof the joints and fasteners† and move forward knowing your work and reputation are secure. †Some application areas such as shower pans may require additional waterproofing. Refer to local building code requirements.
Hydro BanⓇ Cementitious Waterproofing Membrane is a single-component, polymer-fortified cement-based waterproofing material by Laticrete that requires only water for mixing, resulting in a faster preparation process. Designed to perform under negative and positive hydrostatic pressure up to two bars (29 pounds per square inch), the product helps avoid costly repairs and is ideal for use in swimming pools and all common building substrates that require protection from water exposure. It’s formulated to be Greenguard-certified and LEED compliant for sustainable building, equipped with antimicrobial technology, and is solvent-free and non-flammable.
Installers can waterproof, flood test and set tile all in one day with MAPEI’s Mapelastic® Turbo rapid-drying waterproofing and crack isolation membrane. This two-component, cementitious binder-based membrane is formulated with fine-grained aggregates, special admixtures and synthetic polymers. Designed for interior and exterior installations under ceramic tile and stone, it can be used in intermittent wet or submerged environments. Because it is low in odor, Mapelastic Turbo is great for use in confined spaces. Easy-to-apply, this fast-drying mortar has a pot life of 45 minutes or more, and can be applied with a roller or a brush.
Maxxon® Commercial MVP One Primer is a ready-to-use, zero-VOC moisture barrier and primer. Applied to concrete substrates, Maxxon Commercial MVP One Primer blocks moisture vapor up to 25 lbs. MVER, 100% RH and pH up to 14, while also priming the surface for an underlayment or patch. This water-based single component is a game changer. It is easy to use and meets the performance requirements of ASTM F3010. It can be applied to slabs that are on, below or above grade. Maxxon Commercial MVP One Primer has a typical re-coat time of less than one hour.
Hydro Guard 1 is a thin-mil, load-bearing membrane composed of a modified elastomeric copolymer. With excellent elongation properties and high strength, Merkrete’s Hydro Guard 1 provides a 100% waterproof membrane while limiting the transfer of substrate cracks to the finished overlay. It’s suitable for use in commercial and residential areas requiring positive waterproofing such as pools, fountains, spas, kitchens, balconies, tub surrounds and showers, under ceramic tile and natural stone. Installed in a liquid state, Hydro Guard 1 meets ANSI A118.10 and A118.12 and can be applied to practically any form or irregular shape.

SubSeal® liquid from NAC Products is a one-part, ready-to-use, elastomeric waterproofing membrane, which also functions as a sealant and moisture barrier for interior and exterior applications. SubSeal contains no VOCs and is certified Clean Air Gold, conforming to the CDPH Standard Method v1.2 for Private Office and School Classroom. SubSeal provides superior waterproofing protection on the floor, at floor-to-wall and wall-to-wall joints, drains, protrusions and all perimeters. It can also be used with sheet-applied membrane systems for joint, seam and corner applications, in addition to shower pans, shower walls, exterior decks, balconies and other areas requiring waterproof protection.
Prodeso® Drain Membrane from Progress Profiles is a waterproof draining, uncoupling membrane that allows vapor management. It is composed of a high-density polyethylene sheet to which a draining layer is thermo-welded at the top and a non-woven polypropylene fabric is glued to the bottom. The reliefs of the polyethylene sheet creates an “air chamber” under tiles, which favors the movement of the air with micro-ventilation and allows the drainage and rapid drying of the adhesive, preventing the spillage and ascent of triacetates and the formation of efflorescence in the joints.
Prova Board® Plus is a lightweight, high-density tile backer that is quick and easy to install. The 100% waterproof XPS core is resistant to vapor pressure and does not support mold growth. It is also highly durable and flame retardant. New to 2021 is Prova Board Plus’ 48- x 96- x ⅝-inch format. The ⅝-inch thickness is perfect for applications that butt to ⅝-inch drywall or sheet rock wall panels, eliminating the need to shim or build out walls to match. Available in bulk pallet loads for your large commercial projects.
The wider roll of Schluter®-Kerdi waterproof membrane is now available in two different lengths. The 6-foot, 7-inch-wide (2-meter) rolls come in lengths of 49 feet, 2.5 inches (323 ft²) and 98 feet, 5 inches (646 ft²) so installers can choose the length that best suits their business. The wide rolls can be used to cover the wall area from a shower floor to standard shower head height so the walls can be made waterproof with a single piece of Kerdi membrane, meaning fewer seams and faster installation.
