The International Surface Event (TISE) East was launched in October at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami Beach, FL. The purpose of the exhibition and conference program, which are owned by Hanley Wood Exhibitions and includes Surfaces, StonExpo/Marmomacc Americas and TileExpo, was to join together the tile, stone and flooring industries at one location on the East Coast.

The International Surface Event (TISE) East debuted at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami, FL, in October.

For a first-time show, TISE had a respectable showing of exhibitors. Many said that they came with mid-range expectations due to the fact that it was the exhibition’s inaugural year, and were pleasantly surprised with the results they received. While traffic on the show floor was moderate, a portion of exhibitors agreed they were quality attendees.

According to Show Director Aime Gilmore, Miami is an area that is heavily focused on stone and tile, as well as other types of floor covering. Moreover, it is a getaway to Latin and South America, so it is definitely a draw for exhibitors and attendees to do business. “Having an East Coast show allows our exhibitors to focus on a different market than they may want coming to Las Vegas,” she said.

In addition to various tile and stone displays, the exhibition floor also featured live product demonstrations throughout the three-day event. Mapei had a large presence on the show floor — drawing a crowd several times a day to watch demonstrations of its newest installation products.

To kick off TISE East, attendees were invited to a Launch Party By-The-Pool. The after-hours all-industry event included an open bar, heavy hors d’oeuvres, music and networking on the grounds of the iconic Delano hotel. While weather conditions moved the party inside, it did not stop the event from being deemed a success.

Prior to the show’s launch, TISE’s website,, received a brand new look with a more simplified user-friendly experience. The redesigned website was part of a major rebranding effort to market the event as one cohesive brand — The International Surface Event. Consolidating the individual show sites (, and into one site was part of the web strategy to provide the most up-to-date information to exhibitors and attendees.

As of press time, Hanley Wood did announce plans to hold TISE 2015, once again in Miami. While the exact dates had not been finalized, it is expected to take place sometime in the fall.
