From the halls of the ancient pharaohs, to the armor of legendary samurai, shagreen has been a revered material for centuries. Today, it is best known as an art-deco staple, denoting exoticism and high-fashion luxury. Artistic Tile’s shagreen porcelain offers an incredibly realistic interpretation of one of nature’s most sophisticated designs, in a high-honed porcelain tile. The tiles were designed exclusively for the company by expert decorative surfaces designer, Steve Charles, and are manufactured in Spain.

Inspired by fashion, building and nature itself, Shapes by Dune is immersed in the study of lines, both straight and organic, with geometry as the protagonist. The versatility of the pieces in this collection, whether placed in different positions or combined with each other, provide endless possibilities. Walls become blank canvases where architects and interior designers can create their own combinations. Proportional or asymmetric compositions, resulting from the distribution of pieces, add a distinctive and strong aesthetic character to any project.
The Grace Collection is Ege Seramik’s newest, fully-polished and rectified porcelain tile collection specifically created for the North American market. It offers the exquisite look of centuries-old marble, with the easy maintenance and functionality typical of high-quality porcelain tile. It is impervious to most staining and comes in four colors (White, Beige, Gray and Olive), as well as three sizes (12 x 24, 24 x 24 and 24 x 48 inches).
GoBoard® is the innovative tile backer board by Johns Manville that is ultra-lightweight, waterproof, durable, easy to cut and install. Shower installations are fast because waterproofing is built-in, which eliminates extra steps since only board joints and fastener locations need to be sealed for a waterproof assembly. GoBoard is up to 80% lighter than traditional boards, which makes it easy to carry multiple boards at a time. Engineered and tested for strength and durability, yet can be cut right where it’s installed using a utility knife without leaving a mess.
Hastings Tile & Bath has introduced its Artisan Glass collection. Crafted entirely of glass, the collection is comprised of countertops, framed mirrors, towel warmers, wall and shower panels, basins, floor tile and mosaics. For use on walls and floors (light-duty), the tiles are designed to look like wood and parquet and are available in 4- x 4-, 8- x 8-, 12- x 12-, 12- x 24-, 24- x 24- and 6- x 39-inch sizes. iQ Power Tools has introduced the first dry-cut tile saw designed to cut ceramic, porcelain, marble and stone. The iQTS244 is a 10-inch saw specifically created for professional tile setters and contractors and allows for tile to be cut inside or outside with no water and no dust discharge. Additionally, it is lightweight, compact and built on wheels for easy transport to and from jobsites. Fully compliant with the new OSHA standard on respirable silica dust, the iQTS244 was initially produced for professional contractors to eliminate problems caused by cutting with water. The iQTS244 utilizes a three-stage filtration system which captures virtually all dust.
Frame, by Keraben, was launched for the first time this past February at Cevisama 2017 in Valencia, Spain. To develop the collection, a woven relief pattern was created on the surface of the tiles, which emulates the texture of a canvas. The floor tiles, available in five colors, three formats and two different finishes (natural and anti-slip), come in 16 different designs. To complement them, the collection also features 30-x 90-cm wall tiles, available in five colors, as well, including décors with relief patterns.
M S International Inc. (MSI) has introduced its Q premium natural quartz countertops, which are non-porous, stain-resistant, highly durable and low maintenance. Additionally, this innovative quartz brand is backed by MSI’s best in class supply chain and a lifetime residential warranty. Statuary Classique, Calacatta Verona and Calacatta Classique are among the newest and most popular white marble look-alikes in the Q Collection. Kosher certified and trend-forward, these slabs are also authentically through-body — another important point of distinction.
Mapei introduces Mapeguard UM. This crack-suppression, waterproofing and vapor-pressure-equalizing underlayment membrane has been approved for use with latex-modified mortars as part of a warranted system for installation of ceramic tile and natural stone. Because the product equalizes vapor pressure, it can be applied over young concrete in fast-track construction or concrete with high relative humidity and can also be applied over single-layer plywood floors. The uniquely engineered tri-layered design of Mapeguard UM absorbs lateral stress from the substrate without transferring this force to the tile or stone, which maintains exceptional bonds.
Materika, from Marazzi, resonates with the muted powdery hues of concrete, fashioned into elegant 16- x 48-inch over-sized wall embellishments. The choice of flat, wavy or combed surfaces adds further intrigue to feature walls. Four versatile, matte neutrals easily integrate with current wood, concrete, glass and brick trends found in traditional and urban settings. The collection is available in a rectified, large-format, 16- x 48-inch glazed, ceramic wall tile, produced with 3D digital imaging, as well as four organic color options, including Off-White, Beige, Grigio and Fango. Additionally, three surfaces are available: flat, linear and wave.
Nemo Tile + Stone’s Torrone collection is a fine-glazed porcelain crafted to resemble traditional terrazzo flooring. Torrone responds to the drawbacks of installing terrazzo through the use of high-definition printing and detailed craftsmanship, which expertly recreates the look of terrazzo, down to the slight shimmer the marble chips give off when reflected by light. The new line is available in four colorways and durable, large-format square and hexagon tiles.
Schluter-Systems has developed three new thin-set mortars for ceramic and stone tile installation. The new mortars have been precisely formulated to set and gain strength in a timeframe that fits typical installation practice.
